Why dental implants are a second chance at teeth

24-05-2016

Dental implants are a very popular way to replace missing teeth. At Ralston Dental and Cosmetic Clinic in Leicester, we are not surprised by this popularity. Implants are the only permanent way to replace your missing teeth, and restore not just your beautiful smile, but also full functionality to your jaw. In many respects, dental implants can be considered a second chance at teeth.

People lose teeth for all manner of reasons, and at our Leicester dental practice we will never be judgemental if you’ve got one or more of your natural teeth missing. If an underlying condition such as periodontal disease has led to your tooth loss, we will treat this first before placing dental implants, because this will maximise their chances of success.

Dental implants in Leicester: how it works

Your Leicester dental implants journey begins with a free consultation with our treatment coordinator, who will be able to talk you through all of your implant options in depth.

If you decide that this treatment could be for you, you will have a clinical consultation with implant dentist Duncan Ralston, who will use scans and x-rays as necessary to aid with diagnosis and treatment planning. He will also assess the current level of bone density to check that your jaw bone is able to support implants. If you have suffered a high degree of bone loss (common in patients with several or all their natural teeth missing) an additional procedure to rebuild that density may need to be considered.

Most patients only need local anaesthetic for the placement of dental implants. At our Leicester dentalclinic we use The Wand pain-free injection system, which helps nervous patients to get treatment because it eliminates the bee sting effect of injections. Sedation is also available.

Placement of dental implants is intricately planned using the latest computer software to ensure they are put in exactly the right place to support your new teeth. These teeth – a single crown, a bridge, or a denture – will be attached after a healing period.

Implants restore full functionality to your jaw, so you can eat and smile with confidence.
