Also known as oral cancer, the disease can start in the mouth or throat. Signs of mouth cancer can appear as lesions or tumours in the mouth, and risk factors are increased by heavy smoking or drinking.
Mouth cancer can also be identified by thickening of the skin, sores that will not heal, pain when swallowing and jaw stiffness. Whilst all of these symptoms may indicate other problems, it is important to have regular check-ups so that your dental team can stay ahead of any such symptoms.
Our dentists are trained and experienced in spotting signs and symptoms of oral cancer and will refer you to the relevant medical team if they have concerns.
