Saving face with dental implants in Leicester

11-04-2017

When you lose teeth, even just one, not only does it make it harder to bite and chew, but the structure of your jaw and face will start to appear much older. This is a problem that cannot be rectified with a bridge and dentures, in fact it can get worse. But, it can be resolved when you have dental implants in Leicester.

Dental implants are not just about looking more beautiful, they also keep your jawbone healthy and strong, and it is from this that your facial structure retains a youthful look.

When you come to Ralston Dental and Cosmetic Clinic for dental implants, your treatment always begins with a thorough consultation with Duncan Ralston. Dr Ralston has been practising dentistry in South Leicester for 28 years. You can discuss your concerns and needs with him during this consultation, and after examining you, Dr Ralston will only recommend options that he himself would choose if he was in your situation.

The implant process

The dental implant process occurs in 3 stages. The first stage is minor oral surgery under local anaesthetic, when Dr Ralston cuts into the jawbone to drill a socket, into which he inserts an implant. If you feel anxious about this dental surgery, you can receive oral or intravenous sedation as well as the local anaesthetic.

After this first stage of the Leicester dental implant process, there follows several weeks or months of healing. During this second stage, the titanium dental implants integrate with your jawbone tissue. While this process takes place, your implant is protected by a temporary cap.

When the dental implants are as firm as a natural tooth root within the jaw, you can receive the third stage of your treatment with dental implants in Leicester. This is when you have the artificial crowns fitted to the implants. These are custom-made to match your natural teeth. Implants can support single or multiple artificial teeth, and even entire sets of teeth for both upper and lower jaws.

Once in place, implants can be treated like natural teeth, you can eat what you like, but you must brush and floss carefully twice a day.
