Let your dentist restore your smile with dental implants

17-05-2016

With dental implants, your dentist can replace one, some, or even all of your natural teeth. At Dental and Cosmetic Clinic in Leicester, our implant work is carried out by skilled implant dentist Dr Duncan Ralston, who has carried out scores of successful implant placements, helping patients regain not just their confidence to smile in public, but also their ability to eat a healthy and balanced diet, and a life free from loose dentures and messy denture cement.

The benefits of dental implants

At our Leicester dental practice, we find that dental implants are often the best solution for patients with one or more missing teeth. They have several advantages over traditional dentures and bridgework.

One of the biggest advantages of dental implants is that they are permanent. Indeed, they are the only permanent way for your dentist to replace your missing teeth, and the only way they can replace the root portions of those teeth.

All of our teeth comprise roots and crowns, and whilst traditional bridges and dentures replace the crowns adequately enough, they don’t replace the roots. Without the tooth roots in place, the jaw bone is prone to resorption – shrinkage – which is one of the main causes of standard dentures becoming loose and unwieldy over time.

Dental implants are different. They are small titanium tooth roots placed straight into your jaw bone in a small operation, carried out here at our modern Leicesterdental surgery. Most patients only require local anaesthetic for the placement of implants.

If you are a nervous dental patient, we are also fully equipped to provide treatment under conscious sedation at our Leicester practice.

Once they are in position, dental implants mesh with your jaw bone, promoting bone growth and preventing bone loss. A healing period of a few months is usually required, after which your implantologist will attach your permanent new teeth. These may be dentures, a bridge, or a single crown.

With dental implants, you can once again enjoy the full functionality of a healthy jaw of teeth. This means you can eat all your favourite foods, and smile confidently.
