How dental implants can enhance your quality of life after tooth loss

12-07-2016

Dental implants are the only permanent solution to tooth loss.Ralston Dental and Cosmetic Clinic in Leicester offers a wide range of implant treatment options, designed to replace anything from one tooth to all your teeth.

The implant treatment at our Leicester dental practice is carried out by Dr Duncan Ralston, a highly experienced implant dentist who has carried out scores of successful restorations using dental implants.

How dental implants treatment works

Dental implants are replacements for the root portions of lost teeth. They are placed in direct contact with your jaw bone in a small oral surgical procedure, carried out at our Leicester dental practice under either local anaesthetic or sedation.

Made out of titanium, implants not only hold your teeth securely in your mouth, but also help to prevent bone loss, a common side-effect of missing teeth that is at least partially responsible for the problems experienced by many traditional denture wearers.

When the jaw bone shrinks, it follows that dentures will become loose. In some cases the whole structure of your face can actually change. Dental implants will help to stop this from happening.

Leicester dental implants

Once your dentist has placed your dental implants at our Leicester clinic, they will be left to heal and bond with the jaw bone for a few months. This means that they will provide exceptional anchorage for your new teeth.

In terms of new teeth, either a single crown, a dental bridge, or a set of dentures can be attached to your implants. This won’t just restore aesthetic appearance, but will provide great functionality, meaning that you can eat what you like, can speak clearly and smile with confidence – and with no fear of wayward dentures letting you won.

The success rate of dental implants is very high – up to 90%. Your Leicester dentist will provide you with aftercare instructions, and you need to come back to the practice on a regular basis for check-ups and maintenance appointments. Implants and the teeth attached can be affected by gum disease in the same way as natural teeth, so prudent care is important.
