Dental implants: life benefits of tooth replacement

14-06-2016

Using dental implants, your dentist can permanently replace your missing teeth. At Ralston Dental and Cosmetic Clinic in Leicester, our implant dentist, Dr Duncan Ralston, can use implants to replace one, some, or all of your natural teeth. Unlike other tooth replacement options, implants don’t just restore an aesthetically pleasing smile, but also give you back all the functionality of a healthy jaw of teeth.

There are numerous benefits to choosing dental implants to replace your missing teeth. One key point is their permanence – with proper aftercare and regular follow-up visits to our Leicester dental practice, implants and the teeth attached to them will last many years.

Another important point to note is the high success rate of dental implants treatments. Studies have shown that – again, so long as you look after them – implants have a success rate of more than 90%.

Whilst traditional dental bridges can only replace one or two adjacent teeth, and require strong surrounding teeth for support – often necessitating the removal of healthy tooth structure to facilitate crown placement – bridges supported by dental implants require no work on adjacent teeth. In addition, implant-retained bridges can carry far more teeth than their standard counterparts – in some cases, just four implants are needed to support a full-arch bridge.

Traditional dentures are known for becoming loose over the years. This can affect your ability to eat solid foods, to speak clearly, and can seriously dent your confidence, curtailing your social life if you fear your teeth could fall out.

Denture problems often arise because of bone loss, which happens then tooth roots are missing. Dental implants replace the tooth roots and support bone growth, holding your new teeth firmly in place.

Leicester dental implants

When you come to our Leicester practice for an implant consultation, your dentist will first assess the level of bone density to check if you need additional procedures prior to implant placement.

Most patients at our Leicester clinic only need local anaesthetic for the placement of dental implants. Soon you will be enjoying:

  • Speaking clearly
  • Eating what you want
  • Renewed confidence
  • No fear of teeth falling out
  • The functionality of a healthy jaw
