What are dental implants?

Each and every tooth comprises two parts: the crown, and the root. All other tooth replacements bar dental implants only replace the crowns of missing teeth, but without the roots in position, your jaw bone will start to recede. This is often why traditional dentures become loose over time.

Dental implants not only help to prevent bone loss, they are in fact supportive of bone growth. They are little titanium screws that your dentist will put in direct contact with your jaw bone, in a small operation here at our Leicesterdentalpractice. Then, after they have had the chance to heal and bond with the bone for a few months, permanent new teeth will be attached – crowns, dentures, or a bridge.
