I wanted to say a big thank you to Duncan and the team for looking after me throughout my implant treatment.
I am very grateful and more than happy to tell everyone about my implant. Friends and colleagues are so surprised to know that I have an implant at the front of my mouth. I find people are very complimentary about my smile and I'm delighted with the way it looks and feels like my other teeth.
When I came to the clinic I had been unlucky with my previous dentistry. Something always seemed to go wrong with my treatment with this tooth in particular. I was one of the unlucky few whose tooth died whilst wearing my braces. I noticed the tooth's shade change which alerted me to the problem. My dentist reassured me that all could be restored but unfortunately whilst having my root canal treatment the file fractured through the apex of the tooth leaving a small fragment through the end. It was fine for many years others than the darkening root which my dentist tried to keep whiter with internal bleaching. Eventually a sinus appeared and I had to have an apiecectomy with my previous dentist. This worked for a while. The tooth became unsightly around the neck of the tooth and root. He tried to whiten it from the surface but nothing helped. When I first came to the clinic Duncan kindly made me a lovely veneer for my wedding but this would just be for the short term as the symptomless tooth's root was not looking great on X-ray. Duncan suggested removing the tooth and having an implant placed. He said it would look so much better (he was so right!) I was a bit apprehensive on the day but the nurses helped me through. It wasn't the treatment that worried me but more that I was having my front tooth removed. I was concerned that I may lose the gum structure and be left with a dark gap between my teeth. I need not have worried. Everyone was so supportive they knew I might shed a tear when it was extracted and made me feel so much better by their reassurance and kind words. The temporary crown that Duncan made on the day looked so much better than my own tooth that I kept it for nearly a year. I am over the moon with my new crown! It looks amazing! The soft tissues and crown are hard to tell apart from my own teeth.
I would like to thank everyone involved including the skilled lab technician who worked so hard to make it look so real. I can't thank you all enough.Cheryl
Two words 'life changing'
Having grown up with what felt like, excessively large front teeth, I felt I had been dealt a double blow, when they were separated by a huge gap.
Kids at school tortured me mercilessly and I hated every part of my smile.
My mother refused to do anything with them saying they were beautiful and the gap would close over time.
I felt plagued with a life of bad pictures, trying to use my top lip as a shield! I honestly felt flawed and incomplete.
As soon as I reached independence, I started my search for 'the dentist' to fix the issue and what followed was years of different dentists, hideous results and lots of tears.
Until I found Duncan....
I found Duncan by accident via a dinner party. I remarked on a friends teeth, his wife said 'all veneers'... I was blown away, they looked naturally perfect, not like the normal 'denture' veneer look I was used to. so off I went to see him.
After years of terrible experiences I went in terrified and with only a modicum of hope. Duncan instantly put me at ease. His manner, his approach, his humour. I felt 'in good hands'. Considering my prior dentists were private clinics in both Canary Wharf and Bishopsgate London, I was neither easy to convince or to put at ease. Duncans manner is the perfect duality to his dentistry, his combination of building trust, understanding your 'wants' and delivering the results are transformational.
I was right to trust him, where before i'd been horribly disappointed and i'd spent my life covering my smile, Duncan exceeded my expectations and gave me a smile I never thought possible. I feel it's transformed my face and my confidence, people comment on it all the time and while I can tell you the smile is perfect, it's the joy that sits behind it that I can never convey.
Needless to say, I haven't stopped smiling since, it's amazing how instrumental a smile is in your life and when you use one with joy, it's nothing short of infectious!! It also gets me into trouble too, a fabulous side affect and a marvellous problem that I never thought I'd have.Tracey
40 years ago my then NHS dentist capped my front four upper teeth, two were just capped and two were pegged after root fillings.
It was found subsequently that one peg had penetrated my face near my nose. Over a period, I experience severe abscesses and eventually, after emergency treatment over a weekend my dentist told me, he could not do anything further to help and I was referred to a specialist.
Unfortunately there was an NHS strike at the time, so treatment was delayed for nine months in which time I lived on paracetamol and antibiotics. Eventually, I had an apersectomy in the Nottingham General Hospital lasting five hours, the surgeon had to remove a lot of affected bone structure, and this operation was successful.
Four years ago, my husband Tony, needed a wisdom tooth extraction. His dentist was unable to carry this out after thirty minutes effort. Tony was left with a badly infected jaw. He was advised that it would be six weeks before the tooth could be extracted by a surgeon. We heard about Duncan through a family friend and asked if he could help Tony.
Duncan examined Tony straight away and extracted the tooth the next day without any problem, indeed, in the chair, Tony asked Duncan 'when are you going to take it out' to which he replied, 'it's already out Tony, 'it's there on the table'. That same day, Tony asked Duncan if he would examine me, because the family had noticed that my general health was not good, nothing specific, but I was unable to shake off minor ailments quickly, as if there was some underlying problem.
After X-rays, Duncan took us into a private room and said he was very sorry because I needed a complete upper clearance as there was widespread infection. We were told I needed a full upper implant retained construction, a very comprehensive description of the work needed and the estimated costs were produced for us to consider. We accepted the quotation and all my upper teeth were extracted promptly and painlessly.
After the necessary healing process, Duncan carried out two bone transplants and a cow bone tarpaulin procedure. In due course, five implants were installed, he wished to do six but one area was not suitable, this process was very successful and my new teeth were then installed after which I felt and looked better than I have for years.
Throughout my treatment, Duncan emphasize hygiene and cleanliness which I took on board throughout this long treatment. I would go as far as to say, that I think Duncan has saved my life, I am now very healthy, active and confident.
Tony and I are very grateful to Duncan and his wonderful team for their superb treatment throughout this process. As well as being obviously extremely skilled, Duncan is experienced and humane. Tony and I know that he is absolutely meticulous in his work, he leaves no stone unturned to give his patients the best possible care.
All my treatments over two years were carried out all as quoted for with no increase in costs.
I have no hesitation in recommending Duncan as a wonderful dental surgeon.by Elizabeth, November 9, 2014.
My story starts in 2012 following a dramatic dental experience after a visit to a local NHS Dentist for a tooth extraction
My confidence in dentistry had been shattered so it took great courage to embark on my next journey-a visit to the Dental and Cosmetic clinic Why this particular practice-It was Private and local.
When first entering the practice I was greeted with genuine warmth by the practice staff who took considerable time to recap my dental history.
I then had my first encounter with Duncan .First impressions, very friendly, personable, professional .Duncan set about explaining how the practice operates ,the types of treatment that could be offered but more importantly Duncan was interested in what my requirements were I wanted to enhance the whole ascetics of my teeth, this included aligning a front tooth and whitening my teeth.
Duncan explained fully the treatment plan which included wearing an alignment for up to 12 months.
I was sceptical-From wearing braces when I was younger to straighten my teeth, to no avail my initial thoughts were this will not work. Duncan understood my concerns and took the time to explain the process and how he would keep a very close check on progress to ensure the end result was to my liking-it worked
The plan also included the fitting of four veneers .Duncan did such an excellent job that I decided to have all of my upper teeth veneered.
It is true to say that the tremendous job Duncan completed in enhancing my teeth and my smile has given me the confidence to make other life changing decisions including embarking on a fitness plan improving my overall wellbeing.
The whole experience throughout the treatment plan was first class. In my opinion the Dental and Cosmetic Clinic has changed my perception of going to the Dentist.
The Practice Management, through to the Dental Nurses and support staff are a credit to the Duncan and underpins the first class and professional care that Duncan provides.
This was further highlighted when I had a tooth crisis and Duncan went out of his way to resolve the problem well after the practice would normally close.
If I reflect on my initial comments about why I chose the Dental and Cosmetic Clinic -It was Private and Local. I would comment now that if I lived hundreds of miles away I would make the journey to see Duncan as the dental treatment Duncan offers in my opinion is second to none.
I dread the day when sitting in the Dentist chair that Duncan informs me that he is retiring!Helen
